Hi, guys. I've just started playing "Settlers" in the last few weeks. So far, we've just done the main game with no variations. That's good and all, but we are looking for something a little different. All we have is the original game (no expansions), so we can't get too crazy. We're thinking of playing the game this weekend with 1d12 instead of 2d6, just to mix up the probability a little bit. We'll have to figure out what to do if someone rolls a 1 though. Also, we've only played with the layout that is suggested by the instructions. I want to mix that up a little bit as well, but I don't want to do something that makes the game completely unfair. Does anyone have any ideas for cool layouts that work with the original game? Thanks!

Hi, I'm Hannah (hi Hannah), I live in Boston, and I'm more or less addicted to Settlers in all its forms.

I'm a big Cities and Knights fan, but my favorite way to play is combining C&K and Seafarers.

A friend of mine recently got the 3-D collector's version for Christmas - it is awesome.

Nice to meet y'all!

Now that I'm completely addicted to Catan, I want to take it to the next level. Is there a particular order I should try to get the expansions? Is Seafarers better than Cities and Knights, or vice versa?

I discovered Settlers of Catan this past weekend and I'm already addicted. My friends have one question though that didn't seem very clear in the rules.

Early in one game I'd built two sections of road running out from one of my first settlements. Then I couldn't get any wheat (of course) and while I was stuck without it one of the other players plopped a settlement down at the end of my road. I did have brick and wood at that point. So was it legal for me, on my next turn, to continue my road onward from there even though it was "broken" by his settlement?

Anyone know where I can get the Fishers of Catan expansion? Apparently it's only ever been published in a German magazine. I'd love to find scans from the magazine that I can print out and use, but so far, no luck!

Has anyone given the Great River of Catan mini expansion a go? I picked it up through eBay but haven't been able to generate enough enthusiasm with my fellow players to actually give it a go in our gaming session.

Name: JD
Age: 28
Variation: Only settled regular Catan and the 5-6 player expansion
Years playing: 2 weeks
Location: Houston

I was very recently introduced to Catan on vacation. We were all a little apprehensive about playing a game that sounded like a cheap D and D. However, after playing our first couple of games we couldn't stop. We played 2 or 3 games a night for the next couple of days. I also realized that Catan is more of a combination of Risk and Go-Fish, than it is D and D. Since playing I have wanted to try all of the variations, including the starfarrers of Catan. Right now I am looking for the card game so that just two of us can play rather than having to have at least 3 everytime. I am in Houston currently so if there is anyone around this area that is interested in getting a group together to play let me know. I don't have many friends that have played or even know that this game exists so it is hard to get a group together.
