intro post, I guess [May. 4th, 2007|09:37 am]
Fans of Settlers of Catan

Hi, guys. I've just started playing "Settlers" in the last few weeks. So far, we've just done the main game with no variations. That's good and all, but we are looking for something a little different. All we have is the original game (no expansions), so we can't get too crazy. We're thinking of playing the game this weekend with 1d12 instead of 2d6, just to mix up the probability a little bit. We'll have to figure out what to do if someone rolls a 1 though. Also, we've only played with the layout that is suggested by the instructions. I want to mix that up a little bit as well, but I don't want to do something that makes the game completely unfair. Does anyone have any ideas for cool layouts that work with the original game? Thanks!

I really like that first option. I'll propose that to the group and see what they say.

The idea for the 1 is pretty interesting as well. My other thought was to make it like a bonus-- every player gets one resource of anything they chose. That has a few pros and cons, and I'm not sure if it's a good idea overall.

Thanks for your ideas!
